Women, till now, were aware probably of only one contraceptive method that can help them prevent unplanned pregnancy. However, another of the hormonal contraceptive methods that has been found to be equally effective is the contraceptive patch. This contraception, similar to the pills, consists of artificial female hormones with the help of which it works towards prevention of unplanned pregnancy. This birth control also performs three major functions in order to prevent women from getting pregnant. The Evra patch is the most commonly used contraceptive patch.
The Evra patch is required to be used for three weeks in a month, with the fourth week without applying the patch. It has been found to be almost 100% effective in providing you with contraceptive guard. Similar to combined contraceptive pills, this contraceptive patch also consists of two artificial female hormones. The Evra patch is applied on your skin, through which the hormones are absorbed into your skin. The synthetic oestrogen and progestogen present in the patch are ethinylestradiol and norelgestromin respectively.
Just like the contraceptive pills, this birth control affects your natural womb environment, which helps in preventing ovulation from occurring. Secondly, it thickens the cervical mucus, which prevents the sperm from entering and fertilising an egg. Lastly, this contraceptive patch prevents the womb lining from thickening so as to prevent the attaching of an egg and its growth. Women, who are between the ages of 18 to 45, can buy this contraceptive. The patch, which is most effective if worn on the first days of your period, should be changed after every seven days.
